Large corporations were beginning to shift away from:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>On-premise server rooms<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Microsoft-managed data centres<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Single-vendor lock-ins<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>At the same time, latency-sensitive applications, security requirements, and regulatory constraints made public cloud adoption more nuanced than people expected. Enterprises wanted flexibility: some workloads on cloud, some on colocation, and some on bare-metal infrastructure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This hybrid demand created a clear opening. And NextDC was perfectly positioned to meet it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Why NextDC?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the time, I saw two real ASX-listed options to gain exposure to the data centre boom:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Macquarie Telecom<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>NextDC<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>After thorough analysis, NextDC\u2019s model stood out as superior\u2014especially for long-term asymmetric returns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here\u2019s why:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Tier IV certified infrastructure: Best-in-class reliability and uptime.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Diverse offerings: From top-tier fully managed colocation to basic floorplate leasing\u2014NextDC could serve hyperscalers and SMEs.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Carrier neutrality: Unlike telco-owned facilities, NextDC provided clients full choice of bandwidth providers\u2014massively attractive to multicloud and hybrid IT customers.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>National footprint: Expanding into every major metro market across Australia, with a clear strategy to scale capacity ahead of demand.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>NextDC was not just leasing racks\u2014it was becoming Australia\u2019s digital backbone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The Flywheel: Power, Proximity, Platform<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What impressed me most was how NextDC created a flywheel of value:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Location: Building premium data centres in prime urban edge locations\u2014ideal for latency-sensitive applications.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Design: Highly modular, high-efficiency builds tailored to both wholesale and retail customers.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Interconnection: Creating a cross-connect marketplace within each facility, allowing customers to directly peer with one another or with major cloud providers.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>The result?
