You strip away assumptions, analogies, and inherited knowledge until you&#8217;re left with what\u2019s indisputably true.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is how physicists think. How Elon Musk rethought the cost of rockets. How Steve Jobs reimagined product design. And how master CEOs build something from nothing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\ud83e\udde0 <strong>Mental Model<\/strong>:<br>\u201cWhat do we know to be absolutely true about this situation? Rebuild based on what must be true to succeed\u2014not what has historically been done.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Use Case 2: Strategic Planning<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rather than say, \u201cWhat\u2019s the industry norm for market entry?\u201d ask, \u201cWhat must be true for <em>us<\/em> to win in this market from first principles?\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Use Case 3: Talent Decisions<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Don\u2019t ask, \u201cWho has the right experience?\u201d Ask, \u201cWhat skills and behaviors are fundamentally required to succeed in this mission?\u201d Then rebuild your criteria.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\ud83d\udd01 The Process<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table class=\"has-fixed-layout\"><thead><tr><th>Step<\/th><th>Description<\/th><th>Executive Prompt<\/th><\/tr><\/thead><tbody><tr><td>1. Identify the Problem<\/td><td>Pick a business challenge you&#8217;re facing.<\/td><td>&#8220;What are we trying to solve, really?&#8221;<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>2. Break Down to First Principles<\/td><td>Strip down assumptions to undeniable facts.<\/td><td>&#8220;What do we <em>know<\/em> is true\u2014physics, math, behaviorally?&#8221;<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>3. Rebuild from Scratch<\/td><td>Reconstruct the problem from the base up.<\/td><td>&#8220;If I had no legacy constraints, what would I do?&#8221;<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>4. Test for Leverage<\/td><td>Look for insight others miss by copying.<\/td><td>&#8220;Where can we do something <em>radically better<\/em>?&#8221;<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\ud83e\uddd8 Mental Muscle Memory for Executives<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">First Principles Thinking requires <strong>unlearning<\/strong> and <strong>courage<\/strong>. You must give yourself permission to not know. To discard.
