Here&#8217;s how to handle scope changes effectively, no matter what side you are on, in the contract:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Change Request Process: <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>As a Client-side Project Manager, establish a formal change request process that requires stakeholders to document and justify proposed changes, will aid you in dealing with Change Requests\/variations with the least amount of friction, and will likely reduce the number, size and complexity of any Variations as you will have created what Michael Porter terms a &#8216;Barrier to Entry&#8217; (different context, same principle) <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you are on the supply side, know that the customer is likely, if they are sophisticated, to have a formalized change process in place. Knowing this will aid your Project, through your compliance, with the least amount of friction. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Impact Analysis: <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Conduct a thorough impact analysis to understand how the proposed change will affect project scope, schedule, budget, and resources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Be sure to analyze, <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A: What was initially in scope<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>B: What has been removed from scope as a portion of the change (and price that deduction in scope)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>C: What was in scope that will be removed, however already completed, and therefore needs to be distroyed and re-done (Price without deduction)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>D: What the new\/replacement scope is planned to be (Price with addition)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>E: How the new scope aligns to the Objectives of the Project (Why you are doing it).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Change Control Board (CCB): <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Is you are a Project Manager on the Supply side of the contract, most sophisticated Customers will have a Change Control Board or a similar governing body to review and approve or reject change requests.
